Departures Newsletter

The Departures newsletter reached four million American Express Platinum and Centurion cardmembers every week, making it one of the brand's most direct touchpoints with a high-value audience. To make that touchpoint more flexible and impactful, I collaborated across the art, audience development, and product teams to design a modular newsletter system. Twelve interchangeable modules can be assembled into bespoke reading experiences week over week, incorporating editorial features, ecommerce, and partner content.

The system empowered the team to move faster without sacrificing the visual quality the brand demands; the newsletter went on to achieve a nearly 50% open rate and earn a Webby Award nomination in 2022.
